If I can't plan it around family and work commitments, then I'm determined to cycle the equivalent distance over 365 days starting in June 2015! That's going to get me fit and help me to cycle to work more often! Maybe we could get a team together, get fit together and raise awareness?

If one compares the amount of bicycles in front of a red traffic light in a city and the cue of the cars for the same amount of people, it gets obvious, that there is something wrong with the priority for cars in inner city areas.

Why don't we make it more attractive to everybody? Just imagine especially city centers with almost no car traffic, but instead with bikes ... fresh air, less noise, lively but peaceful ... how enjoyable could that be! Looking at a bike as a simple machine run by human strength it is one of the best examples for sustainability: You are immediately able to feel and see the value of the work you put in. 178 Frits Bredal from Copenhagen, Capital Region, Denmark on June 4, 2012 at 9:02 am: I sign for the Global Ride to Rio campaign. In this day and age when the world is looking to solve the challenges of CO2 emissions and global warming, the bicycle has increasingly become part of the solution, while the cars are still part of the problem. In 2050, there is going to be nine billion people on earth, most of them living in the cities. How are these people going to get around in the cities? While significantly reducing CO2 levels? You will find the answer in the slipstream on the cycle tracks. To switch from car to bike, from polluting fuel engines to human-powered engines, takes no international climate summits, no complicated meetings between heads of government and large delegations of government officials. It only takes a strong will and good legs. Also, the bicycle is a very tangible place to start for the individual citizen who is asking him- or herself: “what can I do?” Everybody is talking about the weather, but cyclists are actually doing something about it.

This campaign is one of the steps we are going for preparing “The Charter of Vancouver” which will be signed on the last day of the Velo-city Global 2012 conference in Vancouver. So the bicycle will become an instrument and the symbol for better education and socialization in peaceful societies. Let’s go for the better balance.
